Welcome to Pack 188!

Scouting is a FAMILY adventure!

Cub Scout Pack 188 is located in St. Petersburg, Florida, sponsored by the Freemasons of Nitram Lodge.  Our all volunteer, non-profit organization has an educational program for boys and girls grades Kindergarten through 5th.  In Cub Scouting, children, families, and adult leaders work together to achieve these objectives:
  • Influence a child's character development and spiritual growth.
  • Develop habits and attitudes of good citizenship.
  • Encourage good sportsmanship and pride in growing strong in mind and body.
  • Improve understanding within the family.
  • Strengthen a child's ability to get along with others.
  • Foster a sense of personal achievement by developing new interests and skills.
  • Provide fun and exciting new things to do.
  • Show a child how to be helpful and do their best!
  • Prepare them to be a Scout BSA.
For some great information about Cub Scouting, specifically for parents, check out the Scout Parents Website.

Each year we customize our Pack Calendar to fit the needs of our Pack Families.  We typically have 3 to 4 camp-outs, 1 to 2 build and race events (like Pinewood derby), parades (new to school year 2019-2020), summer activities and so much more!  We work hard to provide a quality program and have been recognized through the Journey to Excellence (JTE) Gold Award 2 years in a row, the highest rating.  Our leaders are dedicated parents and friends of scouting, just like you, that are volunteering their time to help the Scouts succeed!

Our Cubmaster and Den Leaders provide a positive, developing program for all Cub Scout families to enjoy together.  We are always looking for parents, family members, and friends that wish to volunteer their time having adventures with the cubs and watching them grow!

We recruit year round, so please come for a visit any time!  Please check out our calendar to ensure we have not gone off on a Pack Adventure for the weekend if you are interested in stopping by.  For your first visit, a den meeting is highly recommended as these are with the individual grade levels and typically have hands on activities.  Pack meetings are a time for us all to come together to celebrate Scout achievements and present awards/patches.

Take the next steps for a new adventure!

Step 1: Sign up* with BSA here - and pay the initial National Registration Fee

Step 2: Review options and pay your dues here -

Step 3: Join our private Facebook page

* Do this on a computer, not a phone. The process will fail before it completes on your phone. When creating an account, be careful to create an account for yourself first. When the account is created, use it to make an application for your child. Read instructions carefully, spelling and upper/lower case matters.

Quick Links

  1. The Pack is a not-for-profit organization.  All moneys collected flow back to the Scouts as Program costs and awards.
  2. Dues pay for awards.  A scout that is not current with their dues may NOT receive awards at Pack meetings.  If a family is struggling to pay for dues, please reach out to the Committee Chair or the Cubmaster regarding possible scholarship opportunities.

Costs include four things:  National Registration Fees (new scouts), Dues, Uniform, and Camp-out/Activities.  The dues and uniform cost about $230 combined.  The uniform cost is usually a 2x cost per Cub Scout career (1st thru 5th).  Camp-outs are optional, economical, and enriching.  Camp-outs cost between $10-$35 per person depending on the site and activities which usually includes a meal plan (meals for 1.5 days).

Pack 188 charges annual membership dues per school year.  Dues pay for the following calendar year National Registration Fee ($66), Council Insurance ($1.50), Boys Life Magazine ($12), Rank Handbook ($18.50), patches/pins/awards, Den/Pack activity supplies, Program supplies, and a small Pack 188 scholarship program.  Dues can be paid through the Pack 188 store.  For the 2020-2021 school year, the anticipated dues are as follows:
  • Returning Scouts - $160
  • New Scouts joining Fall semester of the school year - $160 plus BSA application fee paid online
  • New Scouts joining Spring semester of the school year - $80.5 plus BSA application fee paid online

Pack 188 requires a minimum uniform.  The Cub Scout uniform is an important part of being a Cub Scout.  Wearing it lets people know that the wearer is part of Scouts BSA in addition to their den and pack!  The uniform should be worn to den meetings, pack meetings, and any special Scouting activities.  When you wear the Cub Scout uniform, it shows you are a member of the team.

Click here for more details regarding Uniforms for each grade.

While we highly encourage you to get a uniform quickly, they can be purchased in pieces over time to help with costs.  Uniforms can be purchases second hand through Ebay, Facebook Market and local thrift stores.  In the meantime, Scouts should wear a solid navy blue tshirt or pack shirt to each meeting until uniform is purchased.
